The Syracuse University Brass Ensemble will play its annual Pops Concert on Sunday, April 17, at 3 p.m. at the United Church of Fayetteville, 310 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville, NY 13066.
The concert will benefit InterFaith Works of Central New York. Working to affirm the dignity of each person and every faith community, the nonprofit agency’s four main programs include the Center for New Americans, Center for Dialogue, Senior Services and Spiritual Care programs. Proceeds from the concert will support InterFaith Works’ (IFW) capital campaign, which is funding the purchase and renovation of its new headquarters, located at 1010 James St., Syracuse. The new building was chosen for its central location, which is easily accessible to those the agency serves. (http://www.interfaithworkscny.org/)
Under Director, Dr. James T. Spencer, the SU Brass will play: Intrada (based on A Might Fortress) arr. Ray Farr; Toccata (from the Organ Symphony) by CM Widor; Year of the Dragon by Philip Sparke; Midway March by John Williams; and Dona Nobis Pacem (B Minor Mass) by JS Bach; as well as other popular selections.
The SU Brass Ensemble, created in 1988, is a permanent-in-residence band sponsored by Syracuse University’s College of Arts and Sciences. Members include SU students, faculty and staff, doctors from SUNY Upstate Medical Center and other residents of Central New York. The ensemble performs about 16 concerts a year, including “Holidays at Hendricks,” broadcast on WCNY and its affiliates. It plays at commencement, has recorded CDs and DVDs, and has twice placed 1st nationally in the North American Brass Band Association (NABBA). (http://subrass.syr.edu/)
